Danny Howard Daniel Edwin "Danny" Howard
(see Gloria Fleming)
03-12-09 Danny Howard passed away with a massive heart attack....

At the time of our last reunion in 1980, we lived in Houston, TX; Dan having just graduated from BYU in 1978.  Since that time we have lived in Lafayette, LA, for four years where our third child was born; and Dallas, TX where we currently reside.  We moved to Dallas in 1983.  Since that time, Gloria has entered the corporate world as a freelance court reporter having graduated in 1987 from the Court Reporting Institute of Dallas.  We have been married for almost nineteen of the twenty years since high school.  We have three children; Christopher - 17, Heather - 15, and Amanda -8.

Our son Chris graduates from high school this year and is enjoying a successful year in the sport of track and field.  His best event is the 800 meter run, and he's broken the long-standing school record for that.  In 1988, he was invited to and participated in a 10K run representing the United States in Munich, West Germany, sponsored by the International Sports Exchange and Athletics Congress.  Chris is an Eagle Scout and is listed in Who's Who Among American High School Students.

Heather, our oldest daughter, is on the high school drill team and Women's choir.  She also takes dance and is a member of a dance company that competes in regional and national competitions.  As a result, she has placed first in several entries both solo and group and has qualified this year for national competition in July.

Amanda, our eight year old, also dances (actually she has since birth) jazz and ballet.  Having started at a much younger age than her sister, Amanda has already earned first place awards in several local and regional competitions with her dance company.  She has recently qualified for national competition also.

I work in the semiconductor business for Honeywell in Richardson Texas currently.

I remember fondly my friendships with a lot of great people that I had gone to S.J. Welsh Jr. High with and many new friendships that developed when we went to LaGrange. When we were sophomores, I remember being told by Darlene Guidry that Gloria Fleming wanted to date me.  I had just broken up with someone else, so I invited Gloria to go with me to a party at JoAnne McMillan's house. Some of you may remember that party on March 9th, 1968.  It was our first date and we have been together ever since.  That was 40 years ago. We have been married for 37 years.

I received an email back in November (see below) from Danny Howard (our Senior Class President) and just received this from his daughter.

03-13-09 Danny Howard passed away yesterday with a massive heart attack.  I know you all have classmate emails that I do not have so please forward this to everyone on your list.  Please keep Gloria and their family in your prayers.  Lottie

Hi to all~ My name is Heather Earl,  I am Dan Howard's oldest daughter. I am going thru his contacts to let you know that he passed away last night from a massive heart attack (march 12 @ 7:45pm).  He was on his way home from watching his son and son-in-law play a church basketball game! He pulled into a Lowe's parking lot and tried to call mom (Gloria) she was in the shower and he then called my sister who was at the same house as my mom! He told her that he was not feeling well and his heart was beating erratic and he was sweating and that he was going to call 911 and where he would probably beat the local hospital! And then told us to BE STRONG! When I got to the parking lot of LOWE'S we could see into the windows of the ambulance and they were doing CPR! We followed to the hospital but he was gone before they got there!  My mom, Gloria is doing as well as you can under these circumstances!  She needs your prayers!  I hope this email finds all those who knew him and loved him! Please let anyone know that might not be on this email!   He will be missed so much and we'll keep you updated on any arrangements!  I will post funeral arrangements when I have them. Thank you         Heather Earl  972-533-3158  heatherandshay@tx.rr.com

Hi Lottie,  Haven't seen or talked to you since the 20th reunion in 1990. I lost contact with nearly everyone in the class since then. Still remember our senior class leadership of which you were a part. I understand that you have had a continuing role in leading the effort to organize the class reunions through the years along with a few others like AJ and Barbara Abshire. I will write to them too. Sorry I could not be a part of those efforts. It was fun to be the MC for the 20th reunion but you guys made it easy for me by doing all the work. But I am interested in helping going forward toward the 40th if one will be organized. Has anyone begun to think about that yet?

Got your email address from the Dallas Ballmer site, Lagrange70, and read a few tributes to your leadership in organizing past class reunions. I have recently moved back to the Dallas area after living in Idaho for several years. I have wanted to re-connect with my LaGrange roots for a while now. I have communicated with Debbie Sonnier Parker and Dallas Ballmer in the last few days because they were listed on the Classmates. com website. I also put up a posting on the Alumni. COM Lagrange site asking if anyone was planning a reunion for the 40th in 2010. That posting was before Dallas Ballmer alerted me to his site where I found you and many others. It's a great site. I now know that his site is where all the action is. I may cancel my memberships to the other sites.

You may remember that I married Gloria Fleming from our class. We have been married now for 37 years now, since Sept of 1971. We have three children, ages 36, 32, and 26, all married. We have 12 grandchildren.  Hope this email finds you well. Love to hear from you.

November 07, 2008 Dan Howard contacted me on Classmates. COM
Hi Dallas,  Just recently joined Classmates to try and connect with LaGrange classmates from 1970. I am hoping to see if there are plans yet for the 40th reunion in 2010. Wanted to see if you knew of anyone one working on it locally in Lake Charles that I might contact. I attended the 20th reunion in 1990, but I cannot remember who organized it. I am interested in the website that you created also. Will you will tell me how to access it?  I read your post about the 2007 in-between party you had. Sorry I missed it. I lived in Idaho for the past four years and moved to Dallas recently.  I'll contact you again when I hear from you and give you more info.   Thanks,  Dan Howard   Class of 1970

Dan,  I have been watched here very closely and censored several times when I attempted to convey our website address or my contact information.  I am not able to overtly tell you how to contact me or any other classmate here... however I can tell you in an around-a-bout way.  Our site that I created is a www site and is named for our school LaGrange with the year we graduated, which is (1970).  That would be lagrange70 for you to put as the address.  The site sells nothing but when it was created it received a com suffix.  Our agenda is to convey information to the class and provide entertainment by way of pictures and recounts of our class activities.  As far as I know we haven't had any organized movement yet but it is fast approaching and I am anxious as well.  Let me know if you are able to decipher this information.  If you are able to it will give you access to my complete contact information as well as many of our fellow classmates.  I have been collecting information and posting it for our class to use as it sees fit.       Dallas

I sent Dan another message on Classmates  January 06, 2009
Dan,     I live in Baton Rouge and have been here since 1976 so I suppose it is my permanent home.  I am retired along with my wife since February but in August of 08 I went back to help a calibration lab close to our home (10 min).  We had a chance to have a "gathering" as you noted and this is well documented on our class website.  Johnny Cooley and some others convinced me to put it together several years ago and I have been having a great time with it.  To get there requires me to give you the URL which is strictly censored at this site along with any other method of communication like phone numbers and such.  Classmates will simply kill the message if they find an infraction.  Our site has no agenda except to freely exchange information and contact data.  There are no fees and nothing for sale.  It is sponsored by myself and several other Gators.  The website is of course w w w and following is lagrange70.  With a suffix of dot com and hopefully this will get you to the site.  I sincerely hope you are able to get there so be sure to let me know if you do please.  Enjoy the content and I will keep you informed of our 40th as it develops.  Nothing as of yet has been more than a discussion.  We are planning a big deal somewhere in Lake Charles for the 40th.  Possibilities are the casino LaBerge du Lac which is owned by Pinnacle Gaming.  The place is very nice and a bit pricy but is quite an experience if we can swing some block of rooms and facilities to support us.  My email address is also going to be censored but is dballmer at Cox dot net.  Maybe all this information will reach you...we will see I suppose.

Johnny Cooley sent this out to us and it seems to fit the occasion...
SLOW DANCE

Have you ever watched kids

On a merry-go-round?

Or listened to the rain

Slapping on the ground?

Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight?

Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?

You better slow down.

Don't dance so fast.

Time is short.

The music won't last.

Do you run through each day

On the fly?

When you ask How are you?

Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done

Do you lie in your bed

With the next hundred chores

Running through your head?

You'd better slow down

Don't dance so fast.

Time is short.

The music won't last.

Ever told your child,

We'll do it tomorrow?

And in your haste,

Not see his sorrow?

Ever lost touch,

Let a good friendship die

Cause you never had time

To call and say,"Hi"

You'd better slow down.

Don't dance so fast.

Time is short.

The music won't last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere

You miss half the fun of getting there.

When you worry and hurry through your day,

It is like an unopened gift....

Thrown away.

Life is not a race.

Do take it slower

Hear the music

Before the song is over.
